Abstract

DP803, an industrial catalyst used in petrochemical industry for dehydrogenation of isobutane to isobutene, was characterized in the current study. The results showed that zeolite Y is a high performance catalyst. This catalyst was then synthesized using a platinum source (hexachloro platinic acid) and two different tin sources (tributyl tin chloride and SnCl2.2H2O) all on zeolites Y, and then the synthesized catalysts were used in the dehydrogenation of isobutane in a reactor designed for dehydrogenation reaction. XRF, XRD, TG/DTG, FT-IR, and SEM techniques were used for the characterization and determination of the composition of catalysts. The wet analysis of samples under different reaction conditions were investigated as well.

Abstract

In this paper, the effect of TiH2 and CaCO3 blowing agents was investigated on the structure and energy absorption of Al-7%Si-3%SiC composite metal foam by powder compact route. Composition of the foam was prepared from a mixture of Al, SiC and Si powders. Then, precursors were consolidated in H13 die mould by cold and uni-axial pressing at 110 MPa and at room temperature. The pressed precursors were extruded at 500oC, in a 12*24 mm2 cross-section. Then, the precursors were foamed in a 316L-stainless steel tube with diameter and height of 20 mm and 100 mm, respectively, in an electrical resistance furnace. Finally, for micro-structural investigation the samples were cut and polished, and a scanning electron microscope was used to observe the cell wall and surface topology. For calculation and comparison, energy absorption was used in an Instron Hydraulic test machine and the foam samples were compressed at the ramp velocity of 50 mm/minute. Results showed that foams with CaCO3 agent due to having high porosities are more stable than foams with TiH2 agent. Also, the energy absorption for foam with CaCO3 agent is more than foams with TiH2 agents. However, its drainage due to less thickness of wall porosities is better than the foam with CaCO3 agent.

Abstract

In this paper, preparation and characterization of a-SiNx thin films deposited by LPCVD method from free radicals of TCS and NH3 gaseous system were investigated. These radicals are made by passing each of the precursor gases separately over Pt-Ir/Al2O3 catalyst at the temperature of 600 ᐤC. Kinetics of this process was investigated at different total pressures, NH3/TCS flow rate ratios and temperatures. Surface topography and chemical concentrations were studied by Ellipsometry, XXPS, AFM and ADP. Our analyses of the performed experiments indicated that at the temperatures between 730 ᐤC and 830 ᐤC, the growth rate of thin films follows an Arrhenius behavior with activation energy of 166.3 KJ.mol-1. The measured H2 contamination in a-SiNx thin films is 1.05 at%, which is 17 times lower than the corresponding contamination in the films produced by PECVD and 3.4 times lower than the contamination in the LPCVD thin films with SiH4 or DCS and NH3. The created surface topography of the prepared films is smooth and uniform.

Abstract

In this research, Zinc oxide nanoparticles with semi-spherical morphology were synthesized by modified sol-gel method using rosemary extract as a stabilizing agent. The effect of the amount of rosemary extract and calcination temperature on size and shape of the particles was investigated. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and elemental analysis (EDX). X-ray diffraction results showed hexagonal structure (wurtzite phase) of zinc oxide. According to the SEM results semi-spherical nanoparticles of 18 nm in size were obtained using 75 ml of rosemary extract. The photocatalytic activity of the modified ZnO nanoparticles was investigated for degradation of the methylene blue dye solution. The results showed 96.87% of dye degradation in the 135 min that confirmed suitable efficiency of as-synthesized nanoparticles in the photocatalytic degradation process of dyes.

Abstract

Water pollution is one of the big problems of human societies, and the need to find new ways to remove these pollutants has been given much attention in recent years. One of the methods is the use of photocatalysts. In this research, TiO2 and TiO2-CdO nanoparticles were prepared by a sol-gel method as nano photocatalysts. The produced samples have been used to degrade methylene blue under UV light. To characterize the prepared samples, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM), X-ray Energy Diffraction Spectroscopy (EDS), and Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis) were used. Microstructural results revealed nanoparticles with dimensions of 18 to 32 nm. XRD results showed that the main phase formed was the anatase. TiO2-4 wt.% CdO nanocomposite showed more photocatalytic activity compared to pure TiO2. Also, the effect of pH, irradiation time, and amount of powder on photocatalytic activity was investigated. The results showed that at pH=9, time of 75 min, and using 0.02 g TiO2-4 wt.% CdO photocatalyst, the maximum photocatalytic activity of about 92 % was obtained.
