Abstract
The calcification of soils and the effects of topography on this process were studied in semi-arid regions of Kermanshah. From a toposequence, based on the previous soil surveys of the region, five profiles were selected, and field studies and laboratory analyses were carried out on soils. Alluvial - colluvial fans, piedmont alluvial plains, and old plateaux were three main physiographies on the selected toposequence. Soil moisture and temperature regimes were Xeric and Thermic, respectively. The results indicate that redistribution of carbonates and soil formation processes may be categorized in four specific stages to be described in the text. Accumulation of calcium carbonates in soil profiles showed two basic forms: one in sandy layers of fine - textured soil profiles under the influence of abrupt textural changes and lower permeability, and the second in subsurface horizons of soils with calcareous parent material. The morphological evidences showed that in addition to translocation from upper horizons of carbonates by solution and suspension, physical movements to subsurface layers of fine calcareous materials have also affected the formation of calcic horizons. In other words, CaCO3 may have moved as fine particles through soil cracks and subsequently accumulated in the lower horizons. Soil mineralogy showed considerable amounts of illite, Chlorite, smectite and palygorskite clay minerals. Some pedogenic transformations of illite and chlorite may have caused formation of smectite and palygorskite.

Abstract
It is believed that various types of field bean, including pinto, white and red, differ in adaptability to high temperatures and may, thus, differ in response to delay in planting. In order to evaluate this response, an experiment was conducted during 1996 at the Agricultural Research Station, Isfahan University of Technology, using a randomized complete block design with split-plot layout. Main plots consisted of four planting dates (April 28, May 13 and 28 and June 13) and sub-plots included four genotypes of common bean (red bean, c.v. Naz pinto beans, experimental lines 11816 and 16157 and a white bean, experimental line 11805).
Number of branches per plant, number of pods per branch and per unit area, number of seeds per pod of main stem and branch, number of seeds per main stem, per branch and per unit area, 100-seed weight and seed yield significantly reduced, while harvest index significantly increased by delay in planting and consequent increases in temperature and reduction in time for growth. The lower harvest index obtained with early planting was the result of the lower efficiency of the produced vegetative growth due to the coincidence of seed filling period with high temperatures. Pinto bean line 11816 ranked the highest for number of branches per plant and harvest index among the genotypes evaluated and produced the highest seed yield (3030 kg ha-1). Although red bean Naz ranked the highest for number of pods and seed per main stem and per unit area, it had the lowest harvest index and 100-seed weight and, consequently, produced the least seed yield (2254 kg ha-1). The results obtained indicate that delay in planting adversely affects bean seed yield. Pinto bean line 11816 may have higher yield potential among the genotypes studied at all planting dates under conditions similar to the present experiment. No specific relationship was observed between apparent seed characteristics and plant tolerance to heat.

Abstract
In order to investigate the androgenic response of chickpea cultivars, two Iranian Chickpea cultivars, Pirooz and Karaj 12-60-31, were used in this study. After 7 to 10 days of cold pretreatment of flower buds, anther containing uninucleate stage of microspores were placed aseptically on MS medium supplemented with various combinations of growth regulators of 2,4-D (1,2 and 3 mg/l) and kinetin (0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 mg/l). Callus regeneration achieved using MS and modified Blayd’s media with various hormones and different sucrose concentrations.
The results indicated that the callus initiation was significantly affected by 2,4-D and kinetin concentrations, and that increasing these hormones reduced callus induction. The best response obtained on media with the lowest concentration levels of 2,4-D and kinetin (1 and 0.2 mg/l, respectively). A highly significant genotypic effect and a genotype 2,4-D interaction were detected, which proved that Pirooz response was the best. Callus differentiation and organogensis occurred in MS medium supplmented with NAA, BA and 3% sucrose. Mature embryos also obtained in modified Blayd’s plus 0.5 mg/l kinetin and 10% sucrose. Cytological studies revealed the presence of haploid cells with chromosome variation in the anther derived callus. Therefore, optimizing the hormone levels of different basal media with a particular sucrose cocentration may improve haploid regeneration in chickpea. It seems a further study should be carried out to characterize calli from induction to regeneration and to determine the effect of cold pretreatment, the results of which could be used to improve anther culture response of chickpea.

Abstract
The poor information available on variation of Ascochyta blight fungus is the most important factor limiting chickpea breeding programs for resistance to blight disease. In this study, efforts were made to detect genetic variation of the pathogen in Iran. The RAPD marker was employed to evaluate 26 isolates collected from 16 provinces. Twelve random primers were used to analyze genomic DNA of the isolates. Only ten primers showed polymorphism among isolates. Primer OPK-01 defined the highest number of polymorphism and primer OPK-09 confirmed relatively low degree of polymorphism. On the basis of this molecular marker, the estimated genetic diversity index was 98% and the pair-wise genetic distance of the isolates varied from 0.16 to 0.61. The least genetic distance belonged to isolates 20 and 22 from Qazvin and Golestan while the highest distance belonged to isolates 26 and 12 from Mazandaran and Markazi. The phylogenic tree was constructed by cluster analysis and all the isolates grouped to 22 genetic clusters at the 90% similarity level. The genetic groups were named from A to V and their distribution in Iran was determined. The results revealed that genetic variation among Iranian population of the pathogen is very high, and further that RAPD is a vigorous tool for genomic analysis of Ascochyta rabiei.

Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the problems of marketing channels of damask roses and to seek appropriate solutions to enhance marketing efficiency. The results of the study revealed that traditional and industrial rose production lacked the quality demanded by the market. The efficiency index was % 92.9 in traditional and %55 in industrial production. In addition, with regard to the marketing parameters for each type of production, the share of the factors was calculated. So we can conclude that the reducing units have the most important roles in this process. According to the study, traditional units with %47.2 had a greater share compared with the industrial units (%44.5).
The results have also shown that production retailer wholesalers and middlemen shares were in the lower ranks respectively. Marketing cost coefficient results showed that %70 of the retailer selling price for 1 kg of the product was related to the marketing costs. The costs for industrial units with high and low capacity were %67.7 and %65.4, respectively.

Abstract
The vertical pipe intake is an economical structure relative to the other alternatives. VPI usually installed near the water surface and prevents from the coarse sediment entrance to the system. The strong vortex in VPI entrance is a major problem which may reduce the system efficiency. Recognizing the vortex affected parameters, helping engineers to design anti vortex structures. In this study an experimental model is built to study the effect of tangential velocity, flow direction at approach channel outlet on the discharge coefficient of vertical pipe intake. By dimensional analysis it is indicated that the vortex in VPI could be defined by the dimensionless numbers (Reynolds, Weber, Froude, Circulation and Submergence). The relationship between the Froude, Circulation and Submergence numbers are presented. By using this relation one can determine the Submergence number and then calculate the discharge coefficient of vertical pipe intake.

Abstract
Chenges in the soil characteristics is rather continuously. A method that takes this continuity into account would present a realistic pattern of soil distribution either in taxonomic or geographical space. The fuzzy set theory provides such an approach. In this study, the robustness of fuzzy clustering in soil pattern recognition was evaluated in a subcatchment of western Iran. The clustering carried out on the basis of minimization of an objective function in assigning membership values to each pedon in each fuzzy class. Fuzziness exponent values from 1.15 to 1.5 were used. The following validation of the resulted clusters (classes), optimal number of classes in whole, morphological and particle-size subsets were determined 8, 4, and 5 respectively. Plots of membership values across the landscape indicated class overlap and considerable contiguity. Considering low differentiation of these young soils and the high similarity among their properties, the method indicated a high capacity in recognizing different soil types over the study area. Furthermore, there was relationships between the soil fuzzy classes and landform. Thus, the method is capable in continuous classification, which could be so important in construction of continuous soil maps at low aggregation levels, e. g., pedon.

Abstract
To investigate drought tolerant isolates of rhizobial symbioant of lentil (Lens culinaris L.), 12 soil samples were collected from cultivated and non-cultivated area of Golestan, Chaharmahal-O-Bakhtiari and Isfahan provinces. Local cultivars of lentil including Binam Dorosht, Ghazvini and Faridani were planted in each soil sample. After 10 weeks, a total of 324 rhizobial isolates were recovered from root nodules of the lentil plants. Evaluation of the ability of the isolates to grow at different concentration of salt showed that all isolates grew normally on 200 mM NaCl and only 20% was determined as salt tolerant isolats(>400mM). Among the isolates RL249 was classified as superior salt tolerant strain due to growing on 600 mM salt. The drought tolerance of the isolates was also examined, using PEG6000. In general, the salt tolerant isolates were also drought tolerant, however their tolerance to salinity and drought is not related to their geographical origin. In a randomized split factorial design with three replications, the effectiveness of tolerant isolates(RL249 and RL211) and a sensitive strain (RL 77) was compared on two cultivars of lentil (Binam Dorosht and Faridani) under water stress treatments with the consumptions of 50, 75,90 and 98% of soil available water. Although nodulation rate was reduced in both cultivars as the consequence of drought stresses, plants of Binam Dorosht cultivar showed high nodulation rate due to the increased fresh weight of the roots. Despite the fact that RL249 was identified as a superior nodulating and salt/drought isolate, however nodulation efficiency was decreased significantly under water stress treatments with more than 50 % of soil available water.

Abstract
Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is an oilseed crop and can have a considerable contribution to vegetable oil production in the country, since it has a high adaptability to different environmental conditions. This crop is grown in summer time as a second crop in Isfahan province. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate the agronomic characteristics of the safflower breeding lines which were isolated from local populations of Iran in early spring and summer planting dates. Seven genotypes were evaluated at two planting dates, early spring (16 March) and summer (21 June), using a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 4 replications at the research farm of Isfahan University of Technology. The results showed that the number of days to emergence, days to flowering and maturity and plant height decreased considerably in the summer planting date. However, the harvest index, seed yield per plant and seed yield per plot and oil yield increased in this planting date. Yield components were not significantly different in the two planting dates, except that 100-seed weight was significantly and considerably more in the second planting date. The average seed yield of genotypes was 2498 and 2845 kg/ha in spring and summer planting dates, respectively. In the first planting date, seed yield varied from 1876 Kg/ha, (for Kouseh genotype as check variety) to 2908 Kg/ha for E2428 line (selected from Isfshan population). In the second planting date, seed yield had a variation of 2124 to 3186 Kg/ha for the genotypes of S3110 (selected line from Khorasan population) and C111 (selected from Kouseh population), respectively. In the second planting date the check variety (Kouseh population) had a seed yield of 2965 Kg/ha. In both first and second planting dates, genotypes of E2428 and C116 (selected line from Kouseh population) had the maximum oil content in the seed, (33.9% and 32.3%د respectively). Genotype by planting date interaction was significant for seed yield and oil yield, since late planting date reduced seed yield in genotypes of S3110 and E2428, but it increased these traits in other genotypes.

Abstract
The present experiment was aimed to evaluate the freezing tolerance of two cold tolerant (MCC426 and MCC252) and a cold susceptible (MCC505) chickpea genotypes. The study was carried out in a split-plot factorial design with three replications. Factorial arrangement of genotype and acclimation (acclimation and non acclimation) were imposed as main plot and temperatures (0, -4, -8, -12, 16, -20ºC) as subplot. The effect of freezing temperature (FT) on plant survival was significantly different among genotypes (p<0.05). According to the average effects of acclimation and FT, the plant survival in MCC426 and MCC252 was 40% and 31% respectively more than in MCC505. Lethal temperature for 50% response (LT50) and temperature resulting in 50% lower dry matter (DMT50) in MCC426 were –10.8ºC and
–8.4ºC, respectively and were lower than the other genotypes. Acclimation increased the freezing tolerance such that MCC426 tolerated up to –12ºC without any mortality, however, at this temperature, plant mortality rates in MCC252 and MCC505 were 25.7% and 67.7%, respectively. Plant regrowth was affected by the intensity of FT, such that plant dry weight (PDW) and stem height (SH) in –12ºC decreased about 63% and 50%, respectively, compared with non - frozen control plants. The most freezing damage was observed in MCC505, -12ºC treatment caused 90% decreases in PDW and SH, but at this temperature, PDW and SH in MCC425 decreased 55% and 49% and in MCC252, the reduction was about 60%and 54%, respectively. It seems that the use of controlled experiments would contribute to the evaluation of freezing tolerance and screening programs in chickpea germplasm for the estimation of LT50 and DMT50 .

Abstract
Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) and rotational crops have been cultivated without potassium fertilizers for many years in southwestern Iran. Although potassium was removed from this soil, no response has been reported to K fertilizers by crops. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of wetting and drying, and cultivation systems on potassium fixation in some Khouzestan soils. The results showed that expandable clay mineral was observed in cultivated soils but not in the non-cultivated soils. This may be related to irrigation, and cultivation practices in this soils. By adding K and sequential wetting and drying the amount of K-available increased in sugarcane, rotational cropping and uncultivated soils from 132.6, 226.2 and, 171.6 mgkg-1 to 266, 447 and 628, respectively. These results showed that more K can be fixed after cultivating soils, especially by sugarcane, but available K increased by adding K. All surface soils had higher K fixation capacity than subsurface ones. Also, by application K to these soils, the amount of K fixation decreased with increasing wetting and drying times. The K fixation increased by the increase of cation exchangeable capacity. Significant difference was observed between cultivation system and depth of sampling in 1% levels. High K fixation can be attributed to illite minerals depleted from K. Mica-like minerals formed after adding K, and wetting and drying cycles. Amount of K fixation by clay particle samples was more than the same soil samples but in both the same trend was observed for K fixation. Also, drying and wetting decreased K fixation in the last periods. It may be due to trapping K in the interlayer positions.

Abstract
To study general combining ability(GCA) and gene action for resistance to sunn pest(Eurygaster integriceps) six lines of bread wheat numbered 7214 ,6412,c-75-4,18,14,12 plus azadi variety werw crossed in a half-diallel system. Seven parents and twenty-one hybrids were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with 3 replication at Tehran University Research Station during the years 2005-2006. Analysis of variance indicated that among all of traits except for weight of sunn pest damaged kernel, difference existed at 1% level of significant. Results of combining ability analysis showed that in all traits, additive and non- additive variances in inheritance is important. Considering GCA for resistance to sunn pest line 7214 was the best and line 18 was the worst. Considering specific combining ability(SCA) for resistance to sunn pest damage with regard to all of traits the azadi×c-75-4 hybrid was the best and the 18×12 hybrid was the worst. Study of Hayman genetics parameters confirmed the results of Griffing GCA analysis indicating that in all traits additive and non- additive components are effective in inheritance except 50 kernel weight damaged, sunn pest seed damaged percent and height. But dominant variance is more important in these traits. For all traits except awn length exist over dominance, furthermore in all traits nonsymmetrical distribution of negative and positive effects and environment effect is also important.

Abstract
The present experiment was carried out to determine the effect of feeding a diluted diet together with avilamycin or probiotics on catch-up growth of broiler chickens. Three hundred day-old chicks (Ross 308 hybrid) were assigned to 4 treatments with 5 replicates based on a completely randomized design. The control group, which met NRC requirements, fed a diet consisting of 2900 KCal/kg ME and 20.8%CP. A diluted diet included 2700 KCal/kg ME and 19.4%CP fed to the negative control group during 7 to 21 days of age. There were two additional treatments with 10ppm avilamycin and 100ppm probiotic, respectively. Feeding the diluted diet resulted in reduced body weight gain (P<0.05). Final body weight was higher in chickens having received avilamycin. Although this difference was insignificant compared with the control, it was significant in comparison with other groups. There was no significant difference in terms of feed intake among the treatments. However, birds which received avilamycin had superior feed conversion ratio to other groups. Birds in the control group had the highest abdominal fat content but the difference was not significant. In conclusion, avilamycin significantly increased body weight gain during catch-up growth though the probiotic caused no significant change.

Abstract
Fire is widely used to clear farms in Iran, while there is little information regarding the effects of fire on the characteristics, especially mineralogy of soils. The objectives of the present study were to 1) compare some physico-chemical properties of burned and unburned soils and 2) evaluate minerals transformation in top soil layer resulting from increasing temperature. Soil samples were taken from 0-5 and 5-15 cm depths of two burned places, an agricultural soil from Takht-e-Jamshid area and Bamoo forest, in four replications. Physico-chemical analyses were carried out on burned and unburned samples. X-ray diffraction technique was used to identify minerals of clay fraction in 0-5 cm depth burned and unburned soil, and also to compare transformation of minerals (if any) after heating at 300˚C and 600˚C for 2, 4, 8 and 12 h. Burning increased soil pH and sand sized fraction in 0-5 cm, and P and K in both depths of Bamoo forest. Changes in soil properties of agricultural filed were negligible. XRD analyses showed the reduction in the intensity peaks of chlorite and illite after burning. Lower relative quantity of chlorite and illite was observed in various times of 300˚C treatment in comparison to control, while they were not observed in 8 and 12 h of 600˚C. No change was observed in the peak of quartz in forest and field soils after burning and after various heat treatments.

Abstract
To evaluate the effect of nitrogen slowly released from pellet, composed of manure and urea fertilizer on the Nitrogen efficiency and morphological Characteristics and grain yield of corn hybrid (S.C704), a field experiment was carried out in Aboureihan research farm of Tehran University in 2009. The factorial design of the study comprised a randomized complete block with three replications. The application rates of N at four levels (46, 92, 138 and 184 kg N. ha-1) and two levels by methods of N distribution (pellet and mixed with soil) were applied. In this research, a Screw Extruder setup was designed and manufactured. Statistical analysis indicated that NUE, as well as agronomic efficiency (AE) was reduced while physiological efficiency (PE) increased with increasing N rates. Also, most plant length and stem diagonal and cob diagonal pellet belonged to the treatment. But, the number of leaves per plant did not affect the distribution method of fertilizer. The results showed significant differences among various rates of nitrogen and methods of N distribution considering grain yield and grain protein. The higher rates of N increased grain protein, grain yield and yield components (except for number of rows per ear). Maximum grain yield (11.1 t. ha-1) was obtained with 184 kg N. Ha-1 treatment.

Abstract
Discrete Models of Spatial Variability (DMSV) have limitations for soil identification in traditional soil maps. New approaches, generally called digital soil mapping (DSM), using continuous methods (CMSV), try to predict soil classes or soil properties based on easily-available environmental variables. The objective of this study was to map the soil classes of the Borujen area, Chaharmahal-va-Bakhtiari province, using digital elevation model (DEM) and its attributes and Soil-Land Inference Model (SoLIM). To do this, eighteen terrain attributes were derived from the DEM of the area. The primary analysis showed seven attributes are the most important derivatives. These derivatives as well as three dominant soil subgroups and seven soil families of the region (41 profiles from 125 profiles) were used to construct the input data matrix of the model. Then, output fuzzy soil maps of SoLIM were converted to polygonal soil map, using ArcGIS. Results showed that different combinations of DEM attributes have different accuracy rates for soil prediction. The accuracy of the interpolation was twice that of the extrapolation. Although SoLIM had an acceptable accuracy for soil nomination, and identification of soil map units’ types, it did not have enough accuracy for the location of soil classes. It seems that using other data like parent material and geomorphic surface maps will increase the accuracy of the model prediction.

Abstract
Hydraulic conductivity is an important parameter in the design of geotechnical structures such as earth dam, floor construction, retaining walls and environmental structures. In unsaturated soils, hydraulic conductivity is a function of moisture content and soil water suction i.e. soil moisture characteristic curve. In this study, the values of unsaturated hydraulic conductivity in two soil types (Ramjerdi and Molasadra core dam series) at 5 different compactions using Gardner method were measured. Then, the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity was estimated by different models using the soil moisture characteristic curve and was compared with measured values. The results showed that Fredlund and Xing models predict the soil moisture characteristic curves more accurately compared with van Genuchten model. For Ramjerdi soil series and up to nearly 0.25 volumetric water content, (VGM) and (FM) models indicated a good estimation for unsaturated soil conductivity. Also, for Molasadra core dam none of the models resulted in acceptable estimations for unsaturated hydraulic conductivity.

The aim of this study was to assess the kinetics of nonexcheangable potassium release in surface and subsurface soil horizons, using organic and inorganic extractions, in Kohgilouye-va-Boyerahmad Province. Kinetics of K+ release was studied by successive extractions of K from 64 selective surface and subsurface soil samples, using 0.01 M CaCl2 and 0.01 M oxalic acid, for 1948 h, with two replicates. Nonexchangeable K+ release was fitted by Elovich, Pseudo-first order, Power function and Parabolic equations. Result showed that the average nonexchangeable K+ released (extracted by 1M HNO3) was 356 mg/kg, while those extracted by CaCl2 and oxalic acid after 1948 h were only 58% and 52% of the total amount of nonexchangeable K+ of the soils, respectively. In all soil samples, nonexchangeable K+ released by oxalic acid was less than that released by CaCl2, due to the high buffering capacity resulting from high carbonates in the soils. Potassium release rate in Elovich and Parabolic equations were significantly correlated with non-exchangeable potassium and some physical and chemical characteristics. Based on high Coefficients of determination (r2) and low Standard errors (SE), Elovich, Power function, First order and Parabolic equations were selected as the best equations for prediction of K+ release from the soils.

Abstract
Splash erosion is one of the most important water erosion types, causing initiation of other types of water erosion. The objective of this study is to model the splash erosion using fuzzy logic approach in part of northern Karoon basin. The major land usage in the area are irrigated farming, dry land farming, pasture and degraded pasture. For the purposes of this study, soil properties including organic matter; CaCO3; surface shear strength (SSS); particle size distribution; mean weight diameter (MWD) and soil splash erosion were measured under four different slope conditions (S:%) and rainfall intensity (RI:mm.h-1): 5-50, 5-80, 15-50, 15-80, respectively, using multiple splash sets (MSS) at 80 different locations. Splash erosion was modeled based on combinational rule of inference under five conditions for selection of different operators. The efficiency of the models was evaluated using mean square error (MSE) between observed and estimated values. Results revealed that all models are capable of predicting splash erosion. Also slope, rainfall intensity, MWD, SSS, fine sand and coarse silt attributes were found to be appropriately and precisely using splash erosion.

Abstract
Soil erosion by water is a serious environmental problem, particularly in semi-arid regions. In these areas, water loss strongly affects soil loss as well as soil productivity in the rainfed lands. Determination of appropriate seed density for each tillage direction is vital to achieve high crop yield and to prevent soil and water losses. This study was conducted to investigate the combined effects of tillage direction and plant density on the soil and water losses in a rainfed land. Twelve crop plots with the dimensions of 1.5 m × 5 m were installed to investigate the effect of two tillage directions (up to the down slope and on the contour line), two seed densities (90 and 120 kg h-1), a three replications in a rainfed land with 10% slope steepness. Soil and water losses were measured in each plot during the wheat growth period (from October 2015 to June 2016). Significant differences were found between both tillage direction and plant density in the runoff (P<0.05) and soil loss (P< 0.001). Runoff and soil loss in the up to down slope tillage was 4.16 and 4.08 times bigger than the contour line tillage, respectively. Runoff and soil loss with the seed density of 120 kg h-1 were 11.25 and 26.32% lower than those with 120 kg h-1, respectively. This result was associated with the increased cover crop and its control on water flow and the enhancement of water retention in the soil. There was no significant interaction between tillage direction and plant density in the runoff and soil loss. The importance of tillage direction in the soil and water loss was very larger than that of the plant density. The application of 120 kg ha-1 seed density on the contour line could, therefore, considerably prevent soil and water losses in the rainfed lands.
