Abstract
Due to physiography and weak structure, the pasture soils in Boroojen are potentially degradable. Converting pastures to agricultural land accelerates the degradation processes. A study was conducted in 1999 to show the effects of almost 20 years of farming on originally pasture land on soil physical properties, fertility, and tilth index of pastures in Boroojen region in Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari Province (central Zagrous). Soil texture, clay content, bulk density, organic matter, saturation moisture percent, cone index, plasticity index, mean weight diameter and aggregate size and distribution, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium were measured.
After 20 years of cultivation, bulk density increased about 20% while organic matter decreased by 30%. Cone index was lower in the undisturbed pasture but nitrogen and phosphorus contents were higher compared to the disturbed pasture. The undisturbed pasture contained more larger (> 1 mm) aggregates, while the disturbed pasture had more smaller aggregates. Sustainable use of natural resources will lead to their long term workability, while negligence of conservational practices including appropriate farming management practices will result in the destruction of these resources.

Abstract
For the study of field wind erosion and the design and evaluation of wind erosion control techniques, detailed observations of soil particle transport and vertical destribution of eroded soil particles are needed. The objectives of this study were: 1) To describe one device for soil transport particle measurement, i. e. the BSNE sediment catcher and 2) To assess vertical distribution of wind–eroded sediment with height in eastern Isfahan. The BSNE sediment catcher is a wind erosion sampler that traps eroded material at seven heights of 0.24, 0.60, 1.08, 2.00, 3.00, and 4.00 m above the soil surface. Each trap consists of a steel container with an inlet and outlet, mounted on a wind vane that rotates about a central pole. Before using the sampler in the field, it was tested and calibrated in the wind tunnel. The results showed that the average trapping efficiency with speeds ranging from 5.2 to 7.2 m sec-1 for 4 different wind–eroded sediments was 0.44 to 0.68. However the trapping efficiency depended on wind speed, particle size distribution, particle density and type of sediment. The sampler had the lowest efficiency for particles < 44 μm. A BSNE sediment catcher was installed in Babaii Air Base. After a sampling period, the sediment in each trap was collected and weighed. The trapped materials were a mixture of saltation and suspension particles. Vertical distribution of wind–eroded sediment showed that the amount of soil collected decreased with increased height and the percentage of fine particles (<63μm) increased with height. The amount of trapped materials for each cm2 frontal intake with increased height were 12.00, 3.42, 1.44, 1.56, 0.75, 0.21, and 0.39 g cm-2, respectively, for the one sampling period.

Abstract
Clay minerals deserve special attention as they play a crucial role in many soils. The clay mineralogy of five gypsiferous soils from different landforms in eastern Isfahan was investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD). In addition, soil aggregates and wind-deposited sediments were examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDX).
The results indicate the presence of palygorskite, mica, kaolinite, chlorite, and quartz with a trace amount of vermiculite and randomly interstratified layers in all soils. Smectite occurs in soils of both the piedmont plain and old river terrace, but not in the alluvial fan soils. Mica, chlorite, quartz, and kaolinite were probably inherited from the parent material. Palygorskite seems to increase with depth in the alluvial fan, whereas, in the old terrace soils, this clay mineral decreases with depth. Palygorskite present in alluvial fan soil appears to have been formed authigenically when the basin was covered with shallow hyper-saline lagoons toward the end of the Tertiary. Palygorskite in the old terrace seems to be mostly detrital and an eolian origin of palygorskite is likely because a large amount of palygorskite is present in upper soil horizons. A higher proportion of smectite in deep soils of the old terrace, as compared with palygorskite, suggests the possibility of authigenic formation of smectite from palygorskite.

Abstract
Stabilizng sand dunes has been one of the main challenges in the arid regions. So far, different kinds of mulches have been used extensively for sand dune stabilization. This study was carried out to determine the optimum composition, concentration and thickness of clay mulch for sand dune stabilization. For this purpose two soil samples from clay flats of a playa with different amount of salinity from Ardestan area were used to make clay mulches. A sand dune sample was selected as bed for applying the mulch. To select the right ingredient and treatments, clay samples were mixed with sand and different amount of water, and sprayed on sand dune bed. In addition, wheat straw was added to some mixture to test its effect on stability of the mulch. Treatments with lowest crack and highest penetration of mulch in sand bed were selected for the experiment in this study. Mulch treatments contained (1): 250g sand dune + 250g clay + 25g straw (2) 250g clay + 25g straw (3) 250g sand + 250g clay (4) 250g clay (5) 125g sand + 125g clay and (6) 125g clay. All treatments were mixed with 500ml water. The experimental design was a CRD with a 6(mulch) * 2(thickness)* 2 EC factorial method with 3 replications. The results showed that clay mulch were resistant to wind erosion, but erosion took place when they had been bombarded with sandblast. The mulches with straw showed the highest resistance to erosion as compared to other treatments. With increasing the number of mulch layers, resistant to erosion also increased. The added stability of mulch was due to the increase in mulch thickness and also increases in clay and silt content. The overall result of this study shows that the mulch with two layers and higher mixture of clay and sands was the best treatment for the stabilization of sand dunes.

Abstract
The study was conducted to compare the efficiency of diets containing various levels of calcium(0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 percentage) in feeding freshwater crayfish, Astacus leptoductylus. 150 cray fish (10 individuals per tank) with mean weight of about 8-9 gram were stocked in each of 15 tanks, containing 100 L of water. In this research, The results showed that the mean values of some parameters such as weight gain (WG), weight increment rate (WIR), length increment rate (LIR), specific growth rate (SGR), biomass increment (BI), food efficiency rate (FER) and survival rate (SR) of animal fed on different diets were 0.75-1.46gr, 9.8-24.54%, 6.57-15.33% and 0.12-0.29% respectively. However, the diet with high levels of calcium (3-4%) showed the good weight and length increment, but there were no significants difference among these indices using different trial diets. The biomass of crayfish increased with increasing of calcium concentration. So, the highest biomass (11.65gr) of crayfish was observed in the diet containing calcium about 4%. Optimal calcium requirement in the freshwter crayfish was estimated about 3.4% with broken-line regression analysis. The lowest survival rate (30%) was obtained in the diet containing 2% calcium level. There were significant differences among survival rates in various experimental diets (p<0.05). These results indicate that the dietary calcium supplement is nesessary for crayfish. The diets with high levels of calcium had a good efficiency in freshwater crayfish feeding. So it is recommended to use 3-3.5% of calcium in formulated diets for freshwater crayfish

Abstract
The genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) has been used to identify euploidy and aneuploidy in segregation generations of various plants. In this study, the GISH with minor modifications including, slide preparation of putative secondary Tritipyrum (F2) root meristemic cells, labeled genomic DNA of Thinopyrum bessarabicum by fluorescein 12-dUTP nucleotide as probe, genomic DNA of Thinopyrum bessarabicum for in situ hybridization on root meristemic cells of F2 (2n=6x=42, AABBDEb) and unlabeled Chinese Spring cultivar in pre hybridization, was carried out for the first time in Iran. The results not only indicated the various Eb chromosomes in putative 6x secondary Tritipyrum plants, but also showed different numbers of A, B and D chromosomes. The range of aneuoploidy in F2 genotypes was from %30 to %66.7, which could be due to various numbers of Eb and D chromosomes in each genotype. The selfing or back crossing of F2 plants with bread wheat varieties could lead to chromosomal stability and aneoploidy reduction in secondary Tritipyrum genotypes.

Abstract
In order to classify and determine the plant communities in Karkas mountainsides, central Iran, quantitative data of 46 environmental characteristics including climate (12 characteristics), soil (26 characteristics), geology and physiology (8 characteristics), were analyzed based on partial Euclidean distance indicator using minimum variation method. The results showed the clustered separation of studied sites at 68% similarity level with three different growth places. Of these 46 factors, 24 factors (8 climate characteristics and 16 soil characteristics) were effective in this classification at 95% certainty level. Only 24 of these 46 factors were effective in this classification at 95% certainty level. These 24 effective factors were divided into 8 climate and 16 soil characteristics. In another classification, combinational percentage index of 17 plant species were investigated as an effective factor in separating growth place and determining the plant communities. Result of cluster classification indicated that the studied sites cold be classified to 3 habitats.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the physical and chemical characteristics of soils covered with vegetation and soils without vegetation in Dagh-e- Sorkh Ardestan area.To achieve the goal, first the vegetation was classified using physiognomic method, and for each vegetation type, the distinctive area was specified for soil and vegetation sampling. Vegetation sampling was done by stratified random sampling. Alongside pursuing the case, twenty two soil physical and chemical factors were investigated also for each growth type and area without vegetation. In the next step, to investigate the similarities and dissimilarities of the soils of desert areas by means of PC-ORD software, the cluster analysis was performe. After simplifying the one-way ANOVA, the most important soil factors which were effective in causing differences in the area’s soils were identified. Results show that the soils of area covered with vegetation differed much from the soils without vegetation physically in such a way that, the soil texture became heavier and gravel percentage became less in the areas without vegetation. Regarding the chemical characteristics, the frequencies of sodium, magnesium, calcium and chlorines and electrical conductivity were highly different. Because of topographic condition of land without vegetation, runoff is directed to this place and deposits salts there. Also, high groundwater level and capillary flowing salts are the important reasons for the salinity of this place. These are the limiting factors for the vegetation establishment in the desert areas of Ardestan.

Abstract
Soil characteristics are the most powerful factors in desertification phenomenon. The purpose of this study was investigating soil characteristics as indices for evaluating desertification intensity. The most important indicators of the soil that affect desertification were selected in the present study. Soil samples were taken from Segzi desert vicinity located in the east of Isfahan city with surface area of 112,167 ha. Soil indices such as Soil texture, soil gypsum percentage, the content of HCO3-1, electrical conductivity (EC), pH, the percentage of the organic matter, the content of the soil sodium, chloral and sodium absorption ratio (SAR) were selected. All of these indices were calculated on the thirty four soil samples. After ensuring of the normality of the samples by Klomogrov-Smirnov test, the mentioned indices were imported into GIS for delineating soil characteristics maps. To delineate distribution maps of each soil indice, inverse distance weighting and ordinary and discrete Kriging methods were applied, and appropriate method was selected. Each layer was scored based on MEDALUS model, and the final characteristic maps were then generated using soil geometric mean indices. Results showed that the affected areas of the average, severe and very severe classes of desertification were calculated about 66000, 45650 and 517 ha, respectively. The results also revealed that the indices of the organic matter, soil gypsum percentage, electrical conductivity and SAR were the most influential indicators, which affected desertification in the study area.

Abstract
Underground water resources considered as a major source of fresh water. Increasing need to water in Iran, causing to
immensely utilization and ground water balance disorder, so that state of ground water in many of area is negative. The
purpose of this study is to investigate the trend of changes in some of the characteristics of groundwater during the
period 1374 to 1387 is Segzi plain. For this purpose, data gathered from the Organization of regional water and
homogenous test with Tom test (Run-test) at 95% confidence level was performed on the data. The independence of
data evaluated by time series auto correlated functions (ACF), to do this, the amount of auto correlated data computed
in different time delays and finally Mann- Kendall test used to evaluate the trend of time series properties in
groundwater. The results of Run-Test showed that all of used series in this study were homogenous (P value< 0.05).
The result of trend analysis test for region’s wells showed a significant increase in chlorine in underground water
resources (P value< 0.05). Calcium has an increasing Trend too about 3 units. Results also showed that all used series in
this study are random and Mann- Kendall trend analysis test can be an appropriate for trend evaluating in data series. As
regard to irregular utilization of underground water resources by increasing depth of water level, amount of different
salts such as chlorine and sodium increased, that causing to surface source degradation like soil and plant cover in
agricultural area.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the performance of TM satellite data acquired in June 2009 to map soil salinity in southeast of Isfahan province. Ground salinity data (EC) was collected within 9 pixels, covering an area of approximately 8100 m2 using stratified random sampling technique at 53 sample sites. Spectral indices including TM bands, BI, SI1, SI2 and SI3, PC1, PC2, PC3 and also multiple linear regression modeling and maximum likelihood classification techniques were applied to the geometrically corrected image. Results of regression analysis showed that the TM band 4 had the strongest relationship with EC data (R2=0.48) and also the relationship of the modeling image using TM 3, TM 4, TM5 and PC3 was significant at the 99% confidence level. The accuracy assessment of the stratified TM4 and modeling image into five classes including 0-4, 4-20, 20-60, 60-100 and EC>100 ds/m indicated that there was more than 86% agreement with the field measurements of EC data. Therefore, it can be concluded that the discretely classified salinity maps have higher accuracy than regression methods for identifying broad areas of saline soils, and can be used as appropriate tools to manage and combat soil salinization.

Abstract
Evaluating the possible relationships between vegetation and environmental characteristics can assist managers to identify effective factors influencing plants establishment and to characterize various vegetation communities. This study was aimed to evaluate the effects of long term grazing exclusion ( more than 33 years) and the controlled grazing system (resting – rotation grazing system) on the vegetation distribution and some soil properties in the Hamzavi research station in Hanna area-Semirom, Isfahan. Six transects (three parallel transects and three transects perpendicular to the general slope of the area) were established in each area and 10 square plots with the size of 2m2 were placed along each transect; then, the cover percentage, production and list of all plant species were recorded. In each area, eighteen plots were collected randomly and in each plot, five soil samples were collected from 0-30 cm of the soil and then the samples were mixed and one sample of the compound was selected as an evidence plot. Soil properties such as pH, EC, CaCO3, organic carbon, absorbable phosphor, total nitrogen, K, Ca, Mg, soil saturated percentage, cation exchange capacity, soil clay, silt, sand and fine sand contents were measured in the soil laboratory. The independent t test was used to compare the vegetation characteristics in two areas. Cation exchange capacity, CaCO3, gravel percentage, soil phosphor content and grazing management were identified as the most discriminative factors in separating vegetation communities based on Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) and cluster analysis. Controlled grazing management significantly modified some soil characteristics and increased the production (352 versus 184.2 kg/ha) and vegetation cover percentage (25.46 versus 18.37), as compared to the exclusion area (α= 5%). The vegetation density was increased significantly in the exclusion rather than controlled grazing area (3.03 versus 2.02 plant/m2). This study, therefore, revealed that controlled grazing management was more effective on improving some soil quality and vegetation characteristics rather than p long term grazing exclusion in the semi-arid ecosystems. So, avoiding long term grazing exclusion in semi-arid rangelands is suggested.

Abstract
Characteristics of most soils in arid and semi-arid regions affected by carbonates. The study aimed to determine the distribution of carbonates in the size components of some soils in Khuzestan province. Upward to the bottom of Karun, Karkheh, and Jarahi rivers were studied at depths of 0-50, 50-100, and 150-100 cm. The results showed that the average amount of carbonates in the soils of the Jarahi river basin (37%) was significantly different from the amount in the soils of the other two rivers (33%). Carbonates were observed in all soil size components but the maximum was present in the clay component. The highest regression relationship between soil particles was in the clay component (0.375). The highest percentage of particle reduction after carbonate removal was related to coarse silt particles (0.75). Therefore, the soil texture changed from clay in Jarahi, from clay and silty clay in Karun, and silty clay in Karkheh due to the removal of carbonates to sandy loam. There was no significant difference in the distribution of carbonates at different depths for river soils and all studied soils. The relatively uniform distribution of carbonates in the four components studied in these soils from the surface to the depth showed that the carbonates originated from the parent material, namely alluvial flood sediments of these rivers.
