Abstract
Qualitative land suitability evaluation is based on the physical parameters affecting the yield agricultural crops. The socio-economic factors are not considered in such evaluations. This study was carried out to assess the qualitative land suitability for irrigated wheat, barley, maize and rice in northern Baraan. Five soil series and 25 different phases were first delineated. Land utilization types commonly practiced in the region with intermediate input levels were considered. Physical requirements of the crops were determined and ranked using the available information. FAO framework and the proposed method of Sys were used for the evaluation. Qualitative evaluation was carried out according to both simple limitation and parametric methods by comparing land and climatic characteristics with crop requirements.
It was shown that in addition to climatic factors, soil salinity, drainage and some soil physical properties such as texture, gravel and lime are the most limiting factors. Land physical suitability for rice production was very low in most land units. The results from physical evaluation by parametric method were very close to those from the simple limitation approach.

Abstract
This study aims to evaluate land suitability for irrigated wheat in Falavarjan region (Isfahan) using the theory of fuzzy sets. This method differs from the usual land evaluation procedures in its use of weight for different land characteristics and in its method of determining land suitability index. The results were compared with those from parametric land evaluation method. The correlation between land indices and observed yield was higher for the fuzzy set method (r=0.35) as compared to the parametric method (r=0.14). The higher relationship given by the fuzzy set method illustrates its potential usefulness and applicability to land evaluation.

Abstract
The objective of this investigation is to measure pectinesterase activity by a simple method. The assay is done at 25°C. Oranges were obtained at a local supermarket in winter. They were peeled and 5 gr sections of the peeled tissue were homogenized in 10% NaCl and 0.5 M phosphate buffer in a homogenizer. The homogenates were centrifuged at 3500 rpm for 20 min. The supernatants were collected, their pH levels were raised to 7.25 using NaOH and the reaction was monitored at 485 nm in a spectrophotometer. The activity of pectinesterase was expressed as micromoles of methanol released per minute.
The results show that this method is reliable, sensitive, and capable of measuring pectinesterase activity of as low as 0.05 unit. The assay method proposed is a very useful analytical tool for the determination of the activities of pectinesterase.

Abstract
Continuous measurement of river discharge is a hard and expensive task in hydrology. To overcome this problem, the stage readings at hydrometric gauges are permanently taken and the discharge of any time at which the actual discharge is unavailable will be estimated through a relationship between discharge and stage. To study the stage-discharge relations and the capability of long-term data in establishing a permanent stage-discharge relationship, and also to determine the best time to measure the discharge of rivers, a study was conducted at the hydrometric station of the Zayandehrud regulatory dam using data from 1990 to 2003. The data were analyzed using simple regression analysis, the percentage of relative error and factor analysis. The results indicated that the best model to show the stage-discharge relation at the studied station is a power function model. Moreover, the model used for every year can only be used for that year. The results also showed that the most suitable times for the measurement of discharge are July, December and March.

Abstract
One of the applications of Non-Parametric methods is determination of genotypes rank in different environments, which is also used as a measuring stability. A stable genotype shows similar ranks across different environments and has minimum rank variance in different environments. Non-Parametric Stability Statistics require no statistical assumptions about the distribution of the phenotypic values and are easy to use. This study was carried out to determine the ranks of 10 Lentil genotypes (Lens culinaris Medikus) across ten environments in 2002-2004, using a randomized complete block design with four replications. Analysis of Thennarasu non-parametric statistics showed that genotypes 8 and 9 had high stability by NP(1) statistic and genotypes 9, 8 and 1 had stable yield in NP(2) method. Result of the NP(3) statistic was similar to NP(1) statistic. NP(4) statistic selected genotypes 9 and 1 as the most stable genotypes and ultimately NP(5) statistic introduced 9 and 1 genotypes as stable genotypes in this experiment. Also analysis of Nassar and Huhn non-parametric statistics revealed that genotypes 1 and 2 were most stable and well adapted across ten environments. In addition, it was concluded that plots obtained by both mean yield (kg ha-1) vs.Si(1) and mean yield (kg ha-1) vs. Si(2) values could enhance visual efficiency of selection based on genotype × environment interaction. According to these configurations, genotypes in section 1 can be considered as stable and well adapted to all environments, having general adaptable ability. For recognition a daptability,Si(1) and Si(2) take preferred over other non-parametric statistics.

Abstract
Soil water characteristic curve shows the relationship between soil water content and matric suction, which has an important role in water movement in the soil. The measurement of this curve is expensive and time-consuming in laboratory therefore, many methods have been proposed for its estimation including pedotransfer functions. By using the pedotransfer functions, soil water characteristic curve can be estimated based on other easily measured soil physicochemical properties. Parametric pedotransfer functions have been offered for parameters of the existing soil water characteristic curve models. In this study, 12 internal and external parametric pedotransfer functions of Brooks and Corey, Campbell and van Genuchten models were used and evaluated for 30 top soil samples in Fars province. To this end, the soil water characteristic curve and other necessary soil properties were measured, and then all soils according to the texture were divided into three groups of fine, medium and course textures. The results showed that the parametric pedotransfer functions of van Genuchten model were better than the other models, beacause of the better fit of this model to the measured data. Also, the results demonstrated that the parametric pedotransfer functions of Wosten et al. were the most appropriate method for estimating the soil water characteristic curve for the selected soils in Fars province, and that internal pedotransfer functions were not appropriate

Abstract
Effects of five various tillage systems on soil porosity, volumetric water content, diurnal and nocturnal soil temperatures, plant water uptake and dry matter yield was investigated using a completely randomized design with five treatments and four replications in Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources research farm located in Seyed-Miran during 2009-2010 growing season. Tillage systems were: moldboard plough followed by one discing (20-25 cm) rototiller (12-17 cm) double disc (8-10 cm) Chisel plow (25-30 cm) No-tillage. Results show that during all stages of wheat growth, the highest and the lowest soil porosities at 0-8 cm depth were obtained by moldboard plough and No-tillage treatments respectively. For all stages except before tillering and harvest, the highest soil porosity obtained by moldboard treatment at 8-16 cm depth. Increasing tillage intensity increased those porosity that keep water in potentials greater than -5 and those in potentials less than -15 bar. No-tillage and moldboard induced the highest and the lowest soil temperatures respectively before earring stage. Tillage intensification, increased soil porosity and root density. More roots reduced soil water content in response to increased water uptake by wheat, resulting greater dry matter accumulation.

Abstract
Soft computing techniques have been extensively studied and applied in the last three decades for scientific research and engineering computing. The purpose of this study was to investigate the abilities of multilayer perceptron neural network (MLP) and neuro-fuzzy (NF) techniques to estimate the soil-water retention curve (SWRC) from Khozestan sugarcane Agro-Industries data. Sensitivity analysis was used for determining the model inputs and appropriate data subset. Also, in this paper, the van Genuchten and Fredlund and xing models were used to predict SWRC. Measured soil variables included particle size distribution, organic matter, bulk density, calcium carbonate, sodium adsorption ratio, electrical conductivity, acidity, mean weight diameter, plastic and liquid limit, resistance of soil penetration, water saturation percentage and water content for matric potentials -33, -100, -500 and -1500 kPa. The results of this study in terms of various statistical indices indicated that both MLP and NF provide good predictions but the neural network provides better predictions than neuro-fuzzy model. For example, using MLP and NF models values of NMSE at prediction θs, θr, α, n and m in Fredlund and Xing equation corresponded to (0.059, 0.065), (0.154, 0.162), (0.109, 0.117), (0.129, 0.135) and (0.129, 0.145), respectively. Furthermore, α and n parameters at the first depth, and θr and α parameters at the second depth in Fredlund and Xing equation were estimated with higher accuracy compared with equivalent parameters in van Genuchten equation

Abstract
Soil aggregate stability is considered as a key indicator of soil quality and health assessments in rangelands. Many factors and properties such as soil texture, organic carbon, calcium carbonate, sodium adsorption ratio, and electrical conductivity might affect soil aggregate stability. The effects of these factors on aggregate stability of 71 soil samples collected from 4 rangeland sites (2 in semi-arid and 2 in arid lands) in Isfahan province were investigated. Aggregate stability was measured using the wet-sieving method. To optimize the trial conditions for the investigated soils, three shaking times (5, 10 and 15 minutes) were used to impose different hydromechanical stresses on the aggregates of ten soils selected out of the studied soils. The structural stability was assessed using mean weight diameter (MWD) and geometric mean diameter (GMD) of the water-stable aggregates. Significant differences of MWD were observed between the shaking times. The 10-min shaking was selected as best for structural stability assessment in the studied regions because it resulted in better differentiation of soils on the basis of structural stability. Among the intrinsic properties, soil organic carbon content had the most important role in aggregate stability in all zones. However, electrical conductivity (in addition to organic carbon content) had an important role in aggregate stability in the arid rangelands. Log-normal distribution and GMD could represent better the aggregate size distribution when compared with normal distribution and MWD in the studied regions. Overall, wet-sieving method with shaking time of 10 min is suggested to assess the soil structural stability in rangelands of Isfahan province. Therefore, soil aggregate stability and the factors affecting this vital indicator can be used efficiently for assessing and monitoring management effectiveness and rangeland functionality trend.

Abstract
Construction of a dam in the upstream of Tajan basin, as one of the human activities in order to provide drinking water, hydropower, agriculture, flood control or other purposes, can be effective on other sectors such as water resources. The purpose of this study is investigating the impact of Rajaei dam on groundwater resources in Sari-Neka plain during 26 years period (1985-2011) using geostatistical method, parametric and non-parametric tests. The results of statistical tests showed that groundwater table variation during 26 years has experienced insignificant upward trend. Quality factors such as EC, TDS, TH, Cl, SO4, Mg, Na and SAR had significant downward trend at 5% confidence level for Pearson and Kendall test. The Quality changes of groundwater resources in the region had good condition due to construction of dam. The results of spatial analysis for the study area using Kriging interpolation method in the three years for 1985, 1999, 2011 showed that in 1999 (the year of exploitation of the dam) most of the quality factors had reached the highest level from 1985 until the dam operation (1999) and then decreased to 2011. The results of this study showed that, agricultural activities after dam construction, operation of irrigation system and drainage network design of Rajaei dams, have raised the water table in northern part of the region and consequently had a significant impact on the quality of water resources.

Abstract
Sand and gravel mining from the most of our country rivers causes morphological, hydrological and geomorphological changes in these rivers. This study investigates the effects of removal of sand and gravel from the river bed on sedimentological features of Zaremrood River in Mazandaran province. For this purpose, by determining four sections before and four sections after the sand removing point, the river bed sediments sampling in combined approach and in a plot within the river were performed and sedimentology features such as the large, medium and small diameters (a, b and c), roundness (Rc), form factor (Sf), normal diameter (D), sphericity (S), and width ratio (W), were measured and calculated in the laboratory and analyzed by SPSS software. The results showed that the variations of sediment statistics a, b, c, Sf, D, S and W in the pre- and post- harvest location has a significant difference but the Rc statistic does not show any significant difference. The reduction of the triple diameters after the excavation site is caused by the fracture of the sediments in the mining area, so that the sphericity of grains also decreased in the mining area. Roundness of sediment particles after the excavation site is decreasing up to 600 meters reach and then it tends to increase.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing DEM spatial resolution on the assessment of the morphometric characteristics of waterways, as well as analysis and modeling of it by using RS and GIS techniques. In this study, which was carried out in the south of Darab city DEM 90 m (as one of the most usable data in waterway modeling), increase spatial resolution of DEM attraction algorithm in neighboring pixels with two models including: touching and quadrant neighboring models to estimate the value of sub-pixels. After manufacturing output images for sub pixels in 2, 3 and 4 scales with different neighborhoods, the best scale with the most appropriate type of neighborhood was determined using ground control points (270 points); then, the values of RMSE were calculated for them. The results showed that with using the Attraction model, the accuracy of the output of images was improved and the spatial resolution of them was increased. Among scales with different neighborhoods, 3 scales and quadrant neighboring model exhibited the most accuracy by the lowest value of RMSE for the DEM 90 meter. Evaluation of waterways morphometric features showed that DEM extracted from attraction algorithm had more ability and accuracy in waterways extraction, Extraction of morphometric complications, and information in the study area.

Abstract
In recent years, with the excessive use of underground water resources in the Malayer Plain, the water level has dropped sharply and underground water resources, which serve as the main source of water supply for the agricultural sector and drinking, the city is facing a serious risk. Because of the relevance of each of the fields with other agricultural fields around, this study was done to show the potential effect of this problem on the welfare. So, in this study, the special econometric method was employed. The purpose of this study was to analyze the welfare of farmers and how it is affected by the exploitation of underground water resources. For this purpose, by using social welfare function, the effect of change in the value of groundwater level of social welfare producers was addressed. The necessary information was collected from 119 questionnaires carried out in 2015 .Moran's I statistics showed that the results of special regression method were better than those of Ols. The results of this study indicates a decline in the welfare loss of groundwater level and the continuation of the harvest of underground water resources would lead to a reduction in access to water and reduced production. The rate of change in return for the welfare of the reduction of every meter of underground water level to cultivate wheat and potatoes was 6983 and 7634 million Rials, respectively.

Abstract
Land use/cover maps are the basic inputs for most of the environmental simulation models; hence, the accuracy of the maps derived from the classification of the satellite images reduces the uncertainty in modeling. The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of the maps produced by machine learning based on classification methods (Random Forest and Support Vector Machine) and to compare them with a common classification method (Maximum Likelihood). For this purpose, the image of the OLI sensor of Landsat 8 for the study area (Sattarkhan Dam’s basin in the Eastern Azerbaijan) was used after the initial corrections. Five land uses including urban, irrigated and rain-fed agriculture, range and water body were considered. For conducting the supervised classification, ground truth data were used in two sets of educational (70% of the total) and test (30%) data.
Accuracy indexes were used and the McNemar test was employed to show the significant statistical difference between the performances of the methods. The results indicates that the overall accuracy of Support Vector Machine, Random Forest, and Maximum Likelihood methods was 96.6, 90.8, and 90.8 %, respectively; also the Kappa coefficient for these methods was 0.93, 0.81 and 0.83, respectively. The
existence of a significant statistical difference at the 95% confidence between the performances of the Support Vector Machine algorithm and the other two algorithms was confirmed by the McNemar test.

Abstract
Flood discharge estimation with different return periods is one of important factors for water structures design and installation. On the other hand, a lot of rivers existing in Iran watersheds have no complete and accurate hydrometric data. In these cases, one of the suitable solutions to estimate peak discharges with different return periods is the regional flood analysis. In this research, 55 hydrometric stations were used. For this purpose, at first, peak discharges in different return periods were estimated using the EasyFit software. Then, the effective variables on the peak discharges were collected and the input variables of the models were selected by using gamma test with the help of the WinGamma software. Finally, data modeling was performed using the support vector machine, artificial neural networks and nonlinear multivariate regression techniques. Quantitative and qualitative assessment of the results using various indices including Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency Coefficient (NSC) showed that SVM modeling method had the most accuracy in comparison to the other two modeling methods to predict the peak discharges in the Namak Lake Watershed.

Abstract
Soil water retention curve (SWRC) reflects different states of soil moisture and describes quantitative characteristics of the unsaturated parts of the soil. Direct measurement of SWRC is time-consuming, difficult and costly. Therefore, many indirect attempts have been made to estimate SWRC from other soil properties. Using pedotransfer functions is one of the indirect methods for estimating SWRC. The aim of this research was to assess the effect of using soil particles percentage in comparison with the geometric characteristics of soil particles on the accuracy of the pedotransfer equations of SWRC and the critical point of it. Accordingly, 54 soil samples of Isfahan province from seven texture classes were used. The most suitable functions for estimating SWRC, parameters of van Genuchten and Brooks-Corey equations, and the critical point of SWRC were selected based on statistical indices. The results indicated that the pedotransfer equations fitted the SWRC data well and the outputs from them were in a good agreement with the independent (validation) SWRC data. The results revealed that using soil particles percentage (sand and clay), bulk density and organic matter content in the point estimation of SWRC was better than applying geometric properties of the soil particle diameter. On the other hand, in the estimation of parametric and critical point of SWRC, using the geometric properties of soil particle diameters resulted in more satisfactory results, as compared with using the soil particles percentage. The NRMSE values indicated that the accuracy of the pedotransfer equations in the lower matric head was greater than that of the higher matric head.

Abstract
River discharge is among the influential factors on the operation of water resources systems and the design of hydraulic structures, such as dams; so the study of it is of great importance. Several effective factors on this non-linear phenomenon have caused the discharge to be assumed as being accidental. According to the basics the chaos theory, the seemingly random and chaotic systems have regular patterns that are predictable. In this research, by using methods of phase space mapping, correlation dimension, largest Lyapunov exponent and Fourier spectrum power, a period covering 43 years of Zayandehrud River discharge (1971-2013) was evaluated and analyzed based on the chaos theory. According to the results, the non-integer value of the correlation dimension for Eskandari and Ghale Shahrokh stations (3.34 and 3.6) showed that there was a chaotic behavior in the upstream of Zayandehrud-Dam Reservoir. On the other hand, in the Tanzimi-Dam station, the correlation dimension curve was ascending with respect to the embedding dimension, showing that the studied time-series in the downstream of Zayandehrud-Dam Reservoir was random. The slope of the Lyapunov exponent curve for Eskandari, Ghale Shahrokh and Tanzimi-Dam stations was 0.0104, 0.017 and 0.0192, respectively, and the prediction horizon in the chaotic stations was 96 and 59 days. The non-periodical feature of time series was studied by using the Fourier spectrum power. The wide bandwidth, besides other indices, showed that river discharge in the upstream stations of Zayandehrud Reservoir was chaotic.

Abstract
In arid and semi-arid regions, water resource management and optimization of applying irrigation water are particularly important. For optimization of applying irrigation water, the estimated values of actual evapotranspiration are necessary for avoiding excessive or inadequate applying water. The estimation of actual crop evapotranspiration is not possible in large areas using the traditional methods. Hence, it is recommended to use remote sensing algorithms for these areas. In this research, actual evapotranspiration of wheat fields was estimated using METRIC algorithm (Mapping EvapoTranspiration at high Resolution with Internalized Calibration), using ground-based meteorological data and satellite images of Landsat8 at the Faculty of Agriculture, Shiraz University, in 2016-2018. In the process of METRIC execution, cold pixels are located in well-irrigated wheat fields where there is no water stress and maximum crop evapotranspiration occurred. The estimated maximum values of evapotranspiration using the METRIC algorithm were validated favorably using the obtained values by the AquaCrop model with NRMSE (Normalized Root Mean Square Errors) equal to 0.12. Finally, the values of water productivity (grain yield per unit volume of evapotranspiration) and irrigation efficiency were estimated using the values of predicted actual evapotranspiration using remote sensing technique. The values of measured irrigation water and produced wheat grain yield in 179 ha were estimated at 0.86 kg m-3 and 75%, respectively.

Abstract
The discharge coefficient of labyrinth weirs increases with increasing the crest length in a certain width range. The present research was carried out in a laboratory flume with a length of 8 m, a width of 0.6 m, and a height of 0.6 m. The discharge coefficient of two-cycle symmetric and asymmetric rectangular labyrinth weirs was experimentally measured. The dimensional analysis by the Buckingham π theorem indicated that the discharge coefficient was dependent on Se, B/Wavg, Ht/P, and WL/WR. According to the results, the discharge coefficient decreased with increasing the hydraulic head in the symmetric and asymmetric labyrinth weirs and the linear weir. Asymmetric labyrinth weirs with a WL/WR of 2.05 outperformed symmetric labyrinth weirs with a WL/WR of 1. Quantitatively, the discharge coefficient of the labyrinth weir with a B/Wavg of 3.1 was respectively 21% and 94% higher than that with a B/Wavg of 2.93 and 2.76. The discharge coefficient of the labyrinth weir with a WL/WR of 2.05 was 10-27% higher than that with a WL/WR of 1. The discharge coefficient of the linear weir was 60-250% higher than that of labyrinth weirs.
