Abstract

Nowadays, cemented carbides-steels joints by brazing method are taken into consideration. One of the problems of these joints is the creation residual stresses that can reduce it with choose correct parameters of brazing. In this study, Silver base alloy filler containing copper, zinc and cadmium have been used in temperature 780°C and the effect of time parameter 5, 10 and 15 minutes on microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated. The results indicated that brazing in 15 minutes causes a columnar growth of solid solution phase of copper from cemented carbide side to steel and provides maximum strength of 94MPa. As well as, by passing of time wetting angle of cemented carbide surface reduces from 40° to about 27°.

Abstract

In this research, artificial neural network (ANN) and genetic algorithm (GA) were used in order to produce and develop the NiAl intermetallic coating with the best wear behavior and the most value of hardness. The effect of variations of current, voltage and gas flow on the hardness and wear resistance were optimized by ANN and GA. In the following, the optimum  values of current, voltage and gas flow were obtained 90(A), 10(v) and 9 (Lit/min), respectively. Then, the wear behavior in the environment temperature and high temperature for optimized NiAl compound was compared with two other experimental samples.

Abstract

Aluminum to stainless steel joints are broadly used in industries in order to reduce fuel consumption. While fusion welding is not a suitable method to join these metals. solid state welding, like friction welding (FW), is an effective way to this process. However, risk of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) formation is probable in these welds. In previews investigations formation of FeAl3, Fe2Al5 and Fe4Al13 is reported. In this study, effect of different parameters on generated heat and temperature distribution that lead to formation of these compounds in a FW of aluminum alloy to stainless steel is investigated using Finite Element Method (FEM). Additionally, a mathematical modeling of the parameters is performed using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and the optimum level of the parameters has been found.

Abstract

Nowadays, aluminum and its alloys have extensive applications in marine and aerospace industrious owing to their excellent properties. Among these alloys, 5xxx series of aluminum alloys have also excellent corrosion resistance, high toughness and strength and also good weldability. Decrease in yield strength and also tensile strength due to the grain growth in the heat affected zone is of the main problems in the welding of these series of Al alloys. In this research work, gas tungsten arc weld joints in two modes i. e. direct current and pulsed current were compared in order to study the effect of this parameter on the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of weld joints. Also, the effect pulsed current parameters such as peak current and basic current were investigated. Microstructural evolutions and fracture surfaces of weld joints were examined by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope, respectively. It was found that the fracture behavior of all joints is in a ductile manner. Also, tensile test and electrochemical polarization were conducted in order to study the mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of weld joints.

Abstract

In this research, the effect of bonding temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Inconel 939 super alloy by transient liquid phase bonding method. For this purpose, the middle layer of MBF20 with a thickness of 50 microns and three temperatures of 1060 °C, 1120 °C, 1180 °C and a time of 45 minutes have been used. In order to evaluate the microstructure, a scanning electron microscope equipped with an elemental analysis system has been used. Vickers hardness test and shear strength test have been used to evaluate the mechanical properties. The research findings showed that with increasing temperature from 1060 °C to 1120 °C, the width of the athermal solidification zonedecreased from 38µm to 35µm and with increasing temperature at 1180 °C, the athermal solidification zone was completely removed and isothermal solidification zone was replaced. In addition, with increasing temperature, the hardness in the joint center decreases and the shear strength increases.
